Reports: Sunderland in talks to sign Man City’s Rodwell

Sunderland have opened talks with Manchester City to sign midfielder Jack Rodwell, according to reports.
The 23-year-old was pictured at the Wearside outfit’s training ground on Monday, sparking rumours he is set to end a nightmare spell at the Etihad, having failed to make a mark since his £12million move from Everton two years ago.
Rodwell has managed just seven Premier League starts in two injury-blighted campaigns for the top flight champions, though it is believed the Black Cats will still have to pay around £10million for the much-maligned youngster.
The former Everton starlet is thought to be currently discussing personal terms on a deal that should go ahead as soon as he passes a medical.
Rodwell was hot property when he arrived at City from the Toffees in 2012, and was rearded as one of England brightest up-and-coming talents as a result of some impressive displays in the centre of the park.
But he found the star-studded City dressing room an altogether tougher challenge and was not helped by fitness struggles at key times.
Having made his international debut against Spain during the peak of his Everton days in 2011, Rodwell largely fell out of the international picture due to his lack of game time at the Etihad - though he was recalled to play a cameo in the glamour friendly draw against Brazil last summer.
Black Cats boss Gus Poyet's transfer business so far this summer has been of the low-key variety, with Jordi Gomez, Billy Jones and Costel Pantilimon signing on free transfers and Chelsea fringe player Patrick van Aarnholt also arriving.
A box to box midfielder has been top of his priorities for much of the close season and Rodwell would fit the bill.
