• Dutchman says of season so far: ‘It’s not good enough’.
Louis van Gaal has admitted that Manchester United’s start to the season is making him feel “very lousy” for the club’s players, board, fans and staff.
Van Gaal has overseen United’s worst start after 10 league matches since the 1986-87 season, with only 13 points accumulated. The Dutchman said: “It’s not good enough. I feel myself very lousy for the fans and my staff, but also for the board, because they have a great belief in me, my staff and the players. I’m feeling lousy for everyone that we have 13 points from 10 games. But we are in a process.”
Van Gaal also suggested that it may be all of the three years of his contract before United are completely how he would like: “I said from the beginning, when we won every game in the United States, that the process shall take more than one year – it will take three years, I hope, because that is always dependent on a lot of things.”
However the Dutchman is confident that United will click at some point and go on a run. “I think when we make it happen that we’ll win a lot of matches in a row,” he said.
Van Gaal also stated that Marcos Rojo should return from injury in less than six weeks, though the Argentinian’s absence with a dislocated shoulder means Michael Carrick may be again asked to play in central defence against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
While Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Radamel Falcao all remain injured and Chris Smalling is unavailable for Palace’s visit , Van Gaal refused to make excuses.
“It is like it is and I don’t want to complain or cry because I have great belief in the players, myself and the fans,” he said.
