Reina, 32, was substituted only six minutes into Bayern's friendly against a supporter's XI on Monday.
"The Spaniard, who joined FC Bayern from SSC Napoli in the summer, suffered a serious muscle injury in his left calf in the Paulaner Cup on Monday night," the club announced on their official homepage on Tuesday.
In the summer, Reina, who had spent the last season on loan at Napoli, joined Pep Guardiola's side from Liverpool for a reported transfer fee of three million euros. However, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the Bundesliga leaders.
On Monday, he was replaced by former Hoffenheim keeper Tom Starke, 33, who, in the last two seasons stood in for Manuel Neuer in five Bundesliga games and two cup games, but was demoted to third keeper following the arrival of Reina.
Bayern Munich went on to beat the supporter's XI 5-1, with Thomas Muller, Milos Pantovic and Xabi Alonso scoring one goal each, and youngster Michael Eberwein providing a brace.
