Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that a deal to
sign Loic Remy has collapsed - but has refused to clarify why the QPR
striker did not complete an £8.5million move to Anfield.
Liverpool
had in recent days opened talks with Remy after meeting an £8.5million
buy-out clause which allows him to speak to Champions League clubs.
A
deal was expected to be completed on Sunday, but the Merseysiders
pulled the plug on the transfer following the France international's
medical.
"It's very simple, we have decided not to go ahead with the deal," Rodgers said on Sunday night.
"It's
unfortunate for the player - we're obviously disappointed - but there's
nothing more to be said. We move onto other targets."
Rodgers completed the signing of Dejan Lovren from Southampton on
Sunday evening, while Belgium international Divock Origi is close to
agreeing a move to Liverpool, although it is expected that the Lille
striker will be loaned back to the French club for the forthcoming
season.
